Could orthodontics help straighten my smile?
When it comes to the physical appearance of our smile, more often than not, we focus on the flaws that can be seen. It may be that a tooth is missing, or discoloured, or it may be that your smile has become dishevelled in terms of the alignment of your teeth. If your teeth have shifted into a variety of directions, then it may be that an orthodontic treatment such as braces Windsor is for you.
Now when some people think of a brace, the image that springs to mind is of a chunky metal contraption that sits on the outside of the head in a very visible way, or it may be that the image of metal train tracks comes to mind. In the past, these were some of the more popular methods used to realign the teeth, but in recent years a lot of work has gone on behind the scenes to create more cosmetically appealing solutions to tooth realignment. Therefore, it is important to explore your options before shying away from the idea. If you are unhappy with your smile there is no need to push the notion away, braces Windsor could be the solution for you.
In this article we look at what is on offer, how they work and how you can get started. Read on to find out the answers.
What brace styles are there?
As mentioned above, in the past, fixed chunky metal braces were the only solution available for tooth realignment. However, whilst the train-track fixed brace is still highly popular in today’s society, the physical appearance of the brace has been adjusted and a variety of fixed brace options are now on offer. These braces Windsor are often more suited to the moderate to severe tooth misalignment.
As an alternative to the fixed brace, removable aligners have been created and enable you to take a more active role in the realignment of your teeth. Taking your treatment into your own hands can suit some people a lot more, less dental appointments to attend and a more discreet approach to realigning the teeth can feel like the goldmine approach to tooth realignment. However, it may be that this approach is not immediately suitable for your own smile.
In order to understand which approach would suit your smile and your lifestyle best, get in contact with our dental team at Old Windsor. Once you get in touch, we will organise a consultation appointment so as to discover how severe your tooth misalignment is, how it affects you and what you are hoping to achieve. Along with this we will discuss which braces Windsor solution will be most efficacious for your individual case. Whilst the internet can unveil a whole host of answers to your questions, discussing your aims with your dental team is the way forward so as to understand which tooth realignment process is best for you.
How do they work?
Braces work in different ways and this depends entirely on the apparatus used.
A fixed brace essentially pulls the teeth into a new aligned position. Using a series of wires and fixed brackets, the teeth are pulled into position over time as the wires are tightened.
On the other hand, removable aligners push the teeth into a new position using a series of pressure points. These pressure points push the teeth over short periods of times and unlike the fixed brace, results are achieved by changing aligners as the process progresses. Each time the teeth reach a certain position the aligner is swapped for the next in the series so as to continue with the realignment.
