Where can I get braces in Berkshire?
If you are looking for a way to straighten your teeth then you may be interested to hear that fixed braces Windsor are not the only option available to you. Here at Old Windsor alongside traditional braces Windsor, we also offer Incognito, a type of lingual brace where brackets and wires are worn on the back of the teeth, Invisalign aligners and ClearSmile aligners.
In order to establish which of these methods may be the most suited to you and your specific needs (and to gain an idea of how long you can expect the treatment to take), you will need to undergo an examination by our dentist. This is because our dentist can take into account any relevant medical and dental history, as well as the current health of your teeth, gums and mouth to inform a discussion with you about which option/ options are recommendable for you.
Fixed braces
Fixed braces Windsor, sometimes known as traditional or metal braces are one option for straightening your teeth. They are made up of metal brackets and wires which are bonded to your teeth using a dental adhesive and adjusted over time to gradually move the teeth into a more aligned position. They are known as traditional braces because they have been used for decades for correcting a wide range of orthodontic issues, including overcrowding, gaps, overbites, and underbites.
Once the brackets and wires are in place, adjustments are made every 4 to 6 weeks to gradually move the teeth towards the intended position. The length of treatment can vary depending on the severity of the orthodontic issues, but most patients wear braces for about 12 to 24 months.
Incognito braces
Incognito braces, also known as lingual braces, are a type of orthodontic treatment placed on the backs of the teeth, making them virtually invisible to those around you. They can be customised to fit your individual teeth. They use the same mechanism as traditional braces to straighten and align the teeth.
Incognito braces may be a good option for both adults and teens who want to achieve a straighter smile by using brackets and wires in a discreet way. The treatment time for incognito braces is generally the same as traditional braces, between 12 and 24 months.
Clear aligners
Aligners are clear, plastic braces, custom-made to fit the individual’s teeth. Clear aligners are virtually invisible, making them a popular alternative for those who wish for their treatment to remain subtle. They come in a series of consecutive aligners, each differing slightly from the last, which (when the aligners are worn in the recommended order) causes gradual movement from the initial position to one of greater alignment.
Because these aligners are removable, it is possible for you to keep up with your usual oral hygiene routines, as well as to continue to enjoy food and drink as you usually would. It is recommended that you wear your aligners for at least 22 hours per day. Both Invisalign aligners and ClearSmile aligners are available here at Old Windsor.
