Replacing knocked out teeth
If you have had a tooth knocked out, you are probably feeling a little bit traumatised by the loss of a body part. That’s to be expected. Losing a tooth, even if you lost it doing something you love (which is often the case with sporty types), is a big deal. So is deciding how to replace it. Often, if you have lost a tooth in a sporting injury or other accident, the tooth you have lost was at the front of your mouth, and now you have a gap that can’t be hidden very easily.
The good news is that you can replace it and no one will ever know the replacement isn’t your original tooth, if you invest in dental implants in Windsor.
In Windsor, dental implants are the perfect way to replace missing front teeth for a number of reasons. We can talk you through them when you come for a consultation with us at Old Windsor Dental Practice, but let’s take a quick look at a few of them now:
Dental implants are long-lasting
Dental implants can last for decades, probably the rest of your life, so, if you are quite young, that could mean 50 years or more. Compare that to fixed bridges and partial dentures, both of which wear out every 5–7 years and have to be replaced. Dental implants can seem like a big investment, but over time, they can work out cheaper than the alternatives.
Dental implants maintain your jawbone
You may not realise this, but when you have lost a tooth, the bone around where the root was starts to shrink away. It actually needs a root in it, sending tiny vibrations down into the jawbone. The vibrations tell it that it’s still in use and to keep renewing itself. Lack of vibration is a signal for the bone to dissolve itself, meaning you end up with a bit of jawbone that is much narrower and shallower than the rest.
Dental implants are easy to maintain
All you have to do is keep them free from plaque with careful brushing and regular visits to the hygienist.
