What treatments are available for me?
As previously mentioned, orthodontics in Berkshire provide solutions for our patients who are dealing with crowded teeth or desire for their teeth to be straighter. Our treatments are also aimed to correct the teeth of patients who have problems with their bite and are unhappy about the way their top and bottom teeth align.
At Old Windsor, our first stage of treatment is a consultation where one of our dental professionals will assess the current state of your teeth and how they are likely to develop. A dentist will assess this by taking X-rays and photographs of your teeth. Once these have been taken and assessed, our dentist will recommend which orthodontic treatment is suitable for you. One option which may be suggested are fixed braces.
How do fixed braces work?
Fixed braces are a non removable type of brace commonly used to correct a number of teeth and prevent any dental problems from arising in the future. These braces are made out of metal brackets that are bonded onto a patient’s teeth and linked by a wire which helps to gently guide the teeth to the desired position. This treatment can last between 18 and 24 months although timescales may vary depending on the patient.
Are fixed braces worth the hassle?
This orthodontic treatment works very well, however it is important that during the treatment you maintain a good oral hygiene regime, for example taking extra precautions when cleaning your teeth to remove trapped food and plaque which is more likely to build up due to the fixed braces. After treatment it is also stressed to our patients that they continue to wear a retainer which will be given after the fixed braces have been removed to avoid the teeth moving out of position.
