A durable, stable solution to tooth loss with dental implants
Accidents are, unfortunately, often unavoidable. An accident can cause a tooth to become dislodged and in some cases that tooth can be reinstalled. Unfortunately, this is not always possible and an alternative may need to be found to restore your bite. Tooth decay is another common cause of tooth loss which can be avoided. In the UK almost one in three adults suffer from tooth decay and in children this figure is just under a quarter. Preventive dental measures are the best way to deter tooth decay. If, however, tooth loss does occur there are prosthetics such as bridges or dentures which are available. Another option offered by our dentist is to have dental implants Windsor which provide an alternative, based on the way in which your natural teeth work, providing a more stable solution.
Losing a tooth is more than just tooth loss!
Losing a tooth has more repercussions than you may think. Your ability to chew can be affected, the jawbone and surrounding area where the tooth used to be starts to degenerate. Your face will slowly start to take on a hollow appearance, because there is no longer support in that area from your jawbone. So, not only will you have lost a tooth, but your facial appearance will alter.
A modern alternative
For decades the only solution to tooth loss was either a bridge or dentures, but since the 1950s research and development have managed to produce a more natural alternative. Dental implants Windsor achieve more than just replacing a lost tooth. Where a bridge or dentures failed to help regenerate the jawbone, dental implants Windsor help the jawbone to grow, stimulating the blood vessels. Over time they remove that sunken facial appearance.
A proud history of delivering dental relief
Doctor U Bose took over Old Windsor dental practice in 2008 and together with his highly skilled team has performed many implant procedures. Implants mimic the way in which natural teeth work by having a root and a crown, therefore they are the ideal way in which to replace lost teeth.
A simple concept
The concept of replacing a tooth with a firmly inserted root is simple, but of course the procedure requires the dexterity, skill and knowledge of an experienced dental clinician. After careful examination using the latest technology we will advise a patient on the best course of treatment for them. Once agreed a small incision is made in the patient’s gum where the previous tooth was located. A hole is then drilled into the jawbone and a titanium post is screwed into the hole. Titanium is used because the bone naturally fuses with titanium forming a good stable base, just like a root. A period of healing is then necessary, typically lasting from three to six months, depending on the individual patient. After this period of healing a beautifully crafted crown which matches the shape and colour of your surrounding teeth is attached to an abutment which will have been placed on top of the titanium post.
Eating naturally again
It will be necessary to give your mouth a week to ten days to heal properly and during this period you will be advised to eat soft foods and chew carefully. After this time you can gradually start to eat properly again. You can brush and floss your teeth normally. You will also be able to smile confidently in the knowledge that your new crown will look just like your natural teeth.
