If you are looking for braces in Windsor, then you may want to consider a twin block brace here at Old Windsor Dental Practice. It is a removable appliance made by one of our skilled technicians to encourage the growth of the lower jaw.
What is a twin block?
A twin block is one of our powerful jaw aligning braces in Windsor. Made of two blocks (hence the name twin), the upper and lower blocks can reduce an overbite reliably and quickly in as little as six months.
When should a twin block be worn?
Twin block braces in Windsor work by harnessing the power of the chewing muscles so we always suggest you should wear it all the time. However, if you find your jaw becomes tired, you can simply leave the brace out for a short period and replace it easily when you can.
And you don’t need to worry about when you eat either, as the twin block is designed to allow you to eat with it in. Some of our patients find this difficult at first, so you take advantage of its removable nature and take it out for meals until you get used to the way it feels in your mouth.
We always recommend you try to wear your twin block all the time. Taking it out to eat while you get used to it won’t harm your treatment and your bite will still improve, but treatment will take longer if it is removed for long periods of time.
Is brushing and flossing easy?
Our patients are always happy to hear that they can remove the twin block and clean their teeth as normal with a toothbrush and toothpaste. Your twin block braces in Windsor also need to be cleaned in our special cleaning solution four to five times a week.
What happens if my twin block breaks?
The plastic or the wire parts of the twin block can sometimes break. If you are still able to wear the appliance, please continue doing so. If the appliance is unwearable, call us as soon as possible to schedule an appointment to fix it.
